Medical research for health in space. Space research for health on Earth.
The MGH Center for Space Medicine Research (CSMR) is working to improve human health in space, and to bring innovations from the space environment to patients on Earth. We invite you to learn more about our on-going investigations, and discover how we conduct cutting-edge research in space and on Earth.
Join our team.
At CSMR we believe collaboration is the key to advancing human health in space and on Earth. We bring together investigators from Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in the shared goal of supporting human health in space and on Earth. Our researchers collaborate across fields and disciplines to unlock biomedical breakthroughs using innovative approaches. Want to get involved? Contact us to find out how you can participate.
Want to fly your science? We can help!
We help investigators leverage the unique properties of space for new biomedical discoveries. Through our collaborations with leading space research implementation and flight partners, we are developing a robust flight program to bring ground-breaking biomedical research to space. Do you have a research aim that would benefit from microgravity? Contact us to learn more about how you can get your science into space.
Need a spaceflight-like environment on Earth? We can help with that too.
Our scientists use a variety of tools and methods to develop new approaches for keeping humans healthy in space. Some of these involve research in spaceflight analog environments: places on the Earth that replicate some of the isolated, confined, or resource-limited operational conditions of spaceflight. Get in touch with us to learn more about our on-going work in these environments and how you can get your research into space analogs on Earth!
From lab, analog, and orbit, to bedside.
We bring together experts across academia and industry to advance biomedical research for improving human health in space and on Earth. We work closely with commercial collaborators to translate findings from CSMR research into practical solutions that support both patients and spacefarers. Find out more about the work we are doing to bring medical innovation from the Space Station to the bedside.
Launching the next generation of space life science researchers!
Creating a better future starts with investing in the next generation today. We are working to improve access and equity in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math) education by creating new opportunities for the next generation of science and engineering leaders to get involved in space medicine research early. CSMR enables a variety of internship and mentorship opportunities, and hosts regular outreach events aimed at inspiring future scientists. Want to learn more about how you can get involved in space medicine research as a student or early-career scientist? Have a student or Post-Doc opportunity in your lab or at your company that you would like to share, or interested in being a mentor? Get in touch with us!
